I’m 10 years old and I just hit puberty. I know you’re
supposed to start gaining weight, but I’ve noticed that one day I gain a pound,
and the next I lose it. Should I be worried?
Puberty is a crazy stage in every girl’s life. There’s
really no such thing as normal when it comes to puberty, babe, so worrying
about every little thing that sets you apart from the way your friends are
going through it or the way your mom went through it is needless.
What you’re seeing on the scale, this gain-a-pound,
lose-a-pound phenomenon, is probably just slight changes in your water weight.
Everyone’s body holds on to a certain amount of water to make all of the
chemical processes in our bodily systems work properly. Depending on what you
eat and drink throughout the day, sometimes you lose a little bit of water
weight, and sometimes you gain it. Dropping a pound (or gaining a pound) every
day is insignificant, so don’t fret! Your water weight could vary by several
pounds each day.
