This is weird, but when my mom puts on her perfume, my
nose gets clogged and I can't breathe. My mom took me to the doctor for an
allergy test, but I'm not allergic to any types of perfume. Why am I reacting
this way?
Your nose is a very sensitive part of your body,
especially when it comes to strong smells. Scented products tend to irritate
your nasal passages and cause you to exhibit allergy-like symptoms, such as
watery eyes and a runny nose. Though it, may look and feel like an allergic
reaction, really your nose just doesn’t like the smell.
There isn’t much you can do to avoid this other than
eliminating strong scents from your environment. If you’re interested in
wearing a fragrance yourself, try ones that are very lightly scented, or
something all natural, like an essential oil.
