I have a brother who isn’t exactly mentally retarded, but he’s
a slow learner. He has great friends but, when we’re out, people make fun of
him. Whenever he hears names being yelled at him, he is deeply hurt. What
should I do?
Dear Distressed Sis,
You are a wonderful sister and good person. Next time people
are mean, say to your brother, “What fools! Don’t pay attention to them,” or, “They
don’t know that you’re worth 100 of them.” The support and love of a sister can
outweigh the criticism and jibes of strangers. And I bet you have already
educated more people than you realize.
