So my BF gets me gifts a lot and I don’t have time to go out and
buy him anything. What should I do?
It sounds like your BF likes buying you gifts
as a way of showing how much he cares about you. It’s super sweet of him, but
can make you feel like you need to do the same for him. A relationship isn’t
about presents—it’s about building a meaningful connection—but let’s face it,
everyone enjoys a gift every now and then.
Instead of browsing the mall in search of a
generic gift, give him something unique that he’ll really appreciate. Bake him
a batch of homemade cookies after a tough test, or make a poster and cheer him
on at his big lacrosse game. Plan a date at the park, and surprise him with a
picnic full of his fave foods.
If the idea of your guy buying you gifts
really bothers you, try talking to your BF and explain the sitch to him. Just
be honest—tell him that you appreciate his thoughtfulness, but would rather spend
your time hanging out with him than shopping for the perf present. Make an
agreement to only buy gifts for each other on special occasions, and even then,
remember that a material item doesn’t buy happiness.
