Dipped
tips have been around for quite a bit—we’ve seen them on Kate Bosworth and
Rachel McAdams forever ago, a grungy Quinn more
recently on
Glee and Lauren Conrad just last week.
And yet this pretty hair trend hasn’t been able to break into the
mainstream—probably because dyeing your hair a crazy shade can be scary—until now. Hello, hair chalk! Thanks to a slew of new
hair chalks in a range of vibrant shades and affordable price tags, the dipped
tip trend is now totally achievable (and totally temporary).
Hair
chalks work by—yep, you guessed it—coating the hair with a chalky,
highly-pigmented powder. Each brand works a bit differently, so always read and
follow the instructions carefully.
Do
try it on the tips only—not from roots to ends. A grungy, ombre look is chic in
a neon shade!
Do twist
your locks as you rub on the color. The texture will help the chalk adhere.
Do
wet hair first if you have dark or brunette tresses—it’ll make the pigment
stronger.
Don’t wet hair if you have light or blonde locks—or it could take days to wash out.
