My
boyfriend and I dated for a while about 4 months ago. We were in love, but then
we broke up. He said some things to me and he really hurt me. Now we're back
together and I'm so happy. I love him. Only problem? My parents and friends
hate him. What should I do?
You’re
parents and friends love you no matter what and are likely very invested
members of your life. If they don’t like him I am sure they must have a good
reason. They love you and just want you to be with someone that they know will
treat you special. If he has said hurtful things to you before, it is likely he
will do it again. Your friends and family don’t want you to go through the
heartache again. Remember, they are not acting this way just to make your life
harder; they have a genuine belief that his is not good for you.
If
you whole-heartedly believe that your boyfriend has changed then you should set
up some opportunities for him to prove to your family and friends that he
really cares about you. He could have dinner with your family or hang out with
you and your friends at the mall. After a whole if they still don’t like him
then you should probably break up with him. He doesn’t mesh with your life and
everyone else is seeing the bad in him that your love is blinding.
