I’ve shied away from the classic red lip for a while now,
sticking to my trusty makeup bag full of lip balms, glosses and stains. That
is, until I made my pre-New Year’s beauty resolution: Rock red lips at holiday
parties this season. I’ve got a signature style (tomboy chic meets French
gamine), so why not have a signature beauty look?
Something about a bold red lip always felt slightly clown-y
to me, until I sat down with GL’s beauty editor Kelsey to sift through zillions
of tubes in our beauty closet. Kels helped me pick out my new fave shade:
Maybelline’s Are you Red-dy, a perfect cherry red with blueish undertones that
secretly whiten my smile. It’s probably the least intimidating red out there—a
great starter red. One layer gives you a swipe of quick color, but you can
apply more for a brighter effect. It’s also super moisturizing and miraculously
didn’t end up all over my face, even hours later.
This universal shade is sure to be flattering on all skin
