OK, we know this isn’t really
healthy news—although it might help trim kids’ waistlines, now that
we think about it—but it’s a milestone nonetheless. So, here it is: Hostess,
the makers of Ho Hos, Twinkies, Cupcakes, Donettes, Wonder Bread and more
deliciously processed goodies are closing up shop.
Why (oh, why, oh, why?!) you ask? Because the bakers are on
strike seeking better terms for their new contract, and the struggling company
just can’t afford to keep running. Because of this, nearly 18,500 workers are
being laid off, something that’ll hit the economy far harder than the dwindling
Ho Hos supply.
But don’t freak out, Twinky devotees: There’s a good chance
your favorite plastic-packaged goodies will hit shelves once again since the
company is for sale. There’s just no
telling when (or if) production might resume.
Moral of the story? Grab your guilty pleasures at the
grocery store now before they’re gone. Or,
you know, whip up a way healthier version yourself.
‘Fess up: What’s YOUR
favorite not-so-good-for-you treat?
