Protect and perfect your pout in 5 easy steps

Summer to-do list: Relax poolside? Check. Sleep until noon. *Definitely* check. Read a book. Check (times 10). Get a little lazy? Check. There are some things that we just cannot skimp on. Here at GL, we happen to feel very strongly about skincare and we specifically take care to keep our lips healthy during these scorching summer months. It’s important, babes! These summer lip essentials will win you a plump pair of lips in (almost) no time.

1. Lip Scrub

If you haven’t been taking the best care of your lips, this is the perfect place to start. Any lip scrub will work to remove dead skin and just generally smooth your lips. Although you can buy lip scrubs at places like Lush and Sephora, it’s actually insanely easy to make your own. Most recipes consist of ingredients such as sugar and olive oil, which are common household staples. Try this DIY lip scrub and soon your lips will literally be sweet (and soft) as can be.

2. Lip Treatment

Recently, lip treatments have become a major player in the beauty game. And for good reason. These treatments give major hydration and moisturization to even the driest of lips. Many lip treatments come packaged similarly to a sheet mask and are intended to be placed on and around the lips in order to achieve maximum results. Some treatments come in pots or tubes. One of our favorite lip treatments is the SEPHORA COLLECTION Lip Mask, $3. It’s cheap, but amazing. You’ve got to try it.

3. Lip Balm

Although there are millions of lip balms out there today, there are truly only a few that really do the trick. It’s important to understand that most lip balms only further dry out your lips and/or mask the dryness by using waxes instead of hydrating agents. So, read the ingredients on lip balm and steer clear of anything with wax. Instead use products with moisturizing ingredients, such as shea butter, like one of our faves, Aquaphor Lip Repair, $3.99. It will soothe any lip woes almost immediately.

4. SPF

It is *so* important to use SPF on your body during the summer, but especially on your lips. Lips have much thinner, more susceptible skin and, yes, they can get sunburnt. So, to avoid any severely burned lips, use a lip balm or tint with SPF. Here at GL, we love Maybelline Baby Lips Moisturizing Lip Balm with SPF 20, $3.99. It does the trick and comes in cute colors.

5. Color

Last, but not least, we have lip color. Having a summery lip color just makes some summer outfits pop. Look for bright pinks, reds, and oranges to give your makeup a citrusy look. If you’re about a bold look, try a purple or blue for an electric pop. We’ve been turning to  Covergirl Katy Kat Matte Lipstick, $7.99 to satisfy all our lip needs this summer. So go find a rad color and rock it.

Try your hand at our essentials and see if you reach lip heaven this summer.

What do you think? Did these essentials soothe your lip woes?
