We Tried It: Hair oil to squash frizz

Summer is fantastic for so many reasons, but hotter weather means terrible conditions for your hair. Frizzies and flyaways pop up from humidity, harsh pool chemicals strip curls of their nutrients and even the loveliest of locks lose shine after too much time in salt water. We’ve been on the hunt for a fix-it-all product to banish our hair despair. Amika’s Oil Treatment promised to fight frizz, add shine, and nourish tresses without getting greasy, so fingers crossed, we gave it a go.

Not gonna lie, at first I was skeptical. Rubbing oil in your hair seems like a recipe for disaster. I didn’t wanna end up with limp, greasy locks (no need to add to my summer beauty blues). This product, however, was surprisingly light and not slimy at all. After rubbing a few drops into my palms and combing it through my hair, I was thrilled to find it tamed my flyways and added some lovely luster. It made my hair instantly soft and subtly fragrant. Needless to say, I was pleased.

I was also confused. What’s so special about this oil? This is no standard kitchen standard slime – Amika’s formula is made with the Sea Buckthorn Berry, which contains a large amount of the unusual nutrient Omega 7, which protects each individual strand, moisturizing without being greasy and leaving locks supple and soft. Amika’s Oil Treatment can also be used as a heat protectant, curl definer and smoothes slick styles in a second. Love it! The bottle is pricey, but you really only use a dab at a time.
