Beauty 101: The perfect way to spray perfume

Everyone loves to be complimented on the way they smell, but it’s tricky to spritz the perfect amount without veering into overwhelming territory. Did you know there are actually particular places on the body that can keep your perfume delicately wafting all day long? We’ve got four rules to guarantee perfect application, every time.

Rule #1: Find your pulse points

There are specific points on your body on which you can feel your pulse beating. These areas are also known for releasing a low level of heat, which helps to radiate your perfume’s scent off of your bod all day long. The most common points to apply your perfume are on your wrists, your neck, your cleavage and behind your ears.

Rule #2: Safe distance

Carefully spray your perfume onto these areas from a distance of about 6 to 10 inches away from the skin, making sure to avoid jewelry and clothing since you don’t know how they will react to the perfume chemicals.

Rule #3: Seasonal switch

You wouldn’t wear a heavy sweater in summer, so why don a heavy and heady scent? Try experimenting with a new smell for each season, going with an airy eau de toilette in the warmer months, and something a bit stronger in the colder temps. In summer, spraying perfume onto clean hair also helps the scent’s staying power. (Ed note: Try flipping your hair over and spraying at the base of your scalp!)

Rule #4: Test it out

Our best tip for picking out a new perfume? Find one you like, then spray it on your wrist at the store and wear it all day long. Perfumes go through three different layers of notes throughout the day, and if you still think it smells awesome hours later after it has mixed with your body chemistry, then we’re betting this is the perf perfume for you!
