Banish these four bad beauty habits ASAP

You finally have an awesome beauty routine in place. You make sure to wash your face every morning and night, never sleep in your makeup, and do your best to pick shadows and lipsticks that work with your coloring. What more could you need, right? Well, turns out that there are several sneaky habits that may be doing more harm than you realize (and getting in the way of your gorgeousness!). Stop making these common beauty blunders and you’ll be fully fabulous in no time.

Going sunscreen-free on the daily

We get it – it’s not sunny, so why would you go through the trouble of slathering on the SPF? Truth is, harmful UV rays are always shining, and leaving sunscreen out of your daily routine can have serious long-term effects like wrinkles, dark spots, and even skin cancer. Prevention is so easy – just grab a moisturizer with an SPF of at least 15 and you’re good.

Applying your makeup with not-so-clean brushes

It’s totally easy to go months without washing your makeup brushes. It may seem like they’re just covered in harmless powder or foundation, but they can actually be collecting dust and bacteria. Using brushes covered in grossness can result in acne, and in some cases, infections like pinkeye. So do your face a favor and wash those puppies every 1-2 weeks.

Using O-L-D makeup

Even if you absolutely adore that expensive mascara or to-die-for shadow palette your mom bought you, resist the temptation to keep it forever. Similar to the dirty brushes, cosmetics can capture oil, dirt, and bacteria, making you break out (or worse – yikes). Mascara should be ditched after three months, while most concealers and powders are good for a year or two unless they change color or consistency. Just keep those fingers away!

Giving your face a hard time (literally)

Exfoliating is key to keep skin glowing and fresh, but over-exfoliating is a huge no-no. Scrubs, abrasive brushes, and chemical exfoliants should never be used more than 2-3 times a week – otherwise, you risk dry, flaky skin and acne flare-ups from oil overcompensation. No thanks.
