The 8 worst face-washing mistakes you are making

Washing you face can seem like a total chore sometimes––especially when you're super tired. If you're guilty of going to sleep with your makeup on, or rush through and do not fully rinse, you could be doing your skin more harm than good. It turns out, these little mistakes during your face-washing regime could be the cause of all your skin woes. But don't freak, we've put together a full list of all those mistakes so you could fix 'em and have the gorge skin you've dreamed of all year long.

Over washing

Washing your face more than twice a day is too much. It can lead to dryness which can cause bigger skin probs. Try washing your face in the AM when you shower and in the evening right before bed.

Not fully rinsing

Just dabbing your face with water is not enough. Plus, leaving cleanser behind can cause unwanted irritation and residue. Pay special attention when you are rinsing your face off and be sure to remove all that extra soap.

Using hot water

Yes, warm water feels great after a long day, but using really hot water can dry out your skin and potentially burn it, too. Try using lukewarm water next time you wash––you'll notice a difference within a week!

Buying the wrong exfoliating scrubs

While it is essential to exfoliate everyday, using gritty facial cleansers can damage the top layer of your skin. Try using a smooth deep cleanser that is for your skin type and wash with a soft washcloth. Not sure which cleanser to use for your skin? Ask your dermatologist for some suggestions.

Delayed moisturizing

It may seem like the norm to wait until after your face is dry to apply moisturizer, but that is not how it should be done. It is actually much better to apply it while your face is still damp. This will allow your skin to fully soak in the moisturizer so you are getting all the benefits the product you are using has.

Using a harsh towel

Even if you’re in a rush, try using a soft washcloth to dry off your face. If you use a harsh towel or rub aggresively, your skin is bound to get irritated. Make sure you are gently patting your face with a soft face towel (and make sure you don't use the same towel you used to dry off your bod after showering).

Overusing makeup remover wipes

Makeup remover wipes are handy and really do get rid of extra makeup left behind. But they are not meant to replace your normal facial cleanser. You need to use your face wash to get rid of dirt and oils. Try using your wipes to take off your eye makeup at the end of the day, and then wash your face with per usual.

Leaving makeup behind

Sometimes no matter how much you've washed your face, some makeup just does not come off. Instead of letting it stick and clogging your pores, try using some makeup remover liquid before you use face wash. This stuff will help take any leftover mascara off without having to scrub hard.
