Decode your acne! Find out what your pimples are *really* trying to tell ya

Pesky breakouts can be the most annoying thing ever. Especially when they’re always popping up in the same spot—ugh! No matter how hard ya try, sometimes it seems like no face wash, cream or spot treatment can kick that stubborn breakout to the curb. The truth is, these blemishes can be from an issue beneath the surface. But don't freak out just yet. Ahead, we’ve got everything you need to know to help decode all your pimple probs.

Where it is: Forehead

What it could mean: Digestive problems, stress or poor diet.

How to help: Step up your healthy habits. Eat better-for-ya foods (more greens, less refined sugars), drink tons of water, exercise most days of the week and get some fresh air. Food choices could be the culprit here, so try to log what you eat with the status of your skin in a diary for a few days. Certain foods could be triggering breakouts.

Where it is: Temples and brows

What it could mean: Poor circulation, diet too high in fat, too many processed foods or gallbladder issues.

How to help: Definitely reduce unhealthy fats in your diet. Foods like avocado and fish have healthy fats, which are still okay to eat. Lighten up on rich foods, like butter and cheese, if ya can. Make sure you’re getting enough sleep, too.

Where it is: Nose

What it could mean: Poor diet, constipation, bloating, indigestion or poor blood circulation.

How to help: Eating less seasoned foods, less meat and less salty foods can totally help with the pimple problems in this area. It sounds weird, but actually massaging your nose can help alleviate the acne, too. Getting fresh air and regular exercise are also key.

Where it is: Cheeks

What it could mean: Overeating, stomach issues, dirty cell phones or stress.

How to help: If breakouts in this area aren’t caused by allergies, then cutting down on sugar, getting more fresh air and eating more cooling foods (green beans are a good one) could do the trick. Also, help fix your body's pH by avoiding meat, dairy, caffeine and sugar for a while. Replacing that stuff with green veggies can make your bod less acidic, and you're likely to see huge improvements.

Where it is: Chin

What it could mean: Hormonal problems, gynecological issues, touching face with dirty hands.

How to help: Visit your doc to get your hormones checked and see if you have an imbalance going on. If that’s the issue, taking omega-3 supplements can help regulate them. Hygiene is also another big factor when it comes to your chin—you might think it’s no biggie to rest your head on your hands, but this can cause a lot of dirt to build up and clog your pores.

Where it is: Mouth/lips

What it could mean: Constipation, reaction to certain toothpaste, too much spicy food.

How to help: Increase your fiber with plenty of fruits and veggies. Try changing your toothpaste and lip balm to see if you’re having a reaction to either, too: Sometimes chapsticks can clog the tiny pores around our lips, so try to go a few days without it.

Bonus tip: Your phone and pillowcase can be a major cause of breakouts on all parts of your face. Make it a habit to wipe down your phone screen every night before bed with a cleaning cloth. You should also wash your pillowcase twice a week to get rid of the dirt and oil that rub off from your face while ya snooze. Sounds gross, but you’ll notice a huge change once you do this for a few weeks!

Where do you break out the most? Do you think any of these things could be the culprit? Let us know in the comments!
