How to prevent split ends without cutting your hair

As anyone with long hair knows, split ends are pretty much unavoidable (ugh). When you use any type of heat or chemicals on your hair, you can gradually wear away the protective outer layer of the hair cuticle, causing your strands to split and become frazzled. The good news? You can get rid of this prob without getting your ends freshly chopped. Just follow these tips for your healthiest hair ever.

Start using a wide-tooth comb

Running a wide-tooth comb through your hair while you’re in the shower can slowly work out all of your tangles without stretching or snapping your locks. Waiting until after you’ve towel-dried to start brushing can cause major damage.

Splurge on heat tools

It may be a no-brainer to buy the cheapest heat tool in the drug store, but these products tend to dangerously overheat, causing dehydration and breakage. Opt for a nicer, more expensive product that doesn’t burn up over time.

Leave-in conditioner is your BFF

Conditioning in the shower doesn’t really help your hair after you rinse it out. Start using a leave-in conditioner that protects your hair from heat and other factors throughout the day.

Learn the correct way to blow-dry

Wait until your hair is about 90% naturally dry to even start with the heat. When you start to blow-dry, use the nozzle to control and direct the flow of the air, and always dry your hair in a downward direction before sectioning it off and drying with a round brush. You never want to go against the direction in which you hair falls!

Folic acid and biotin are totally essential

These vitamins provide tons of nutrients to build the protein that make up your hair strands. If you want longer, stronger, shinier locks, definitely get in the habit of taking these daily.
