Your guide to the best eyeliners

Eyeliner is the perfect way to add drama to any look — but it can be a hard skill to master! There are many different types, colors and styles of eyeliner, so it's a challenge to know where to start. But don't worry, we've compiled the *best* guide of eyeliners and techniques to get you started. You'll be a MUA in no time.

Classic cat-eye

Ulta Beauty, $10 | @kennedyclairewalsh

Ofc, the cat eye is a go-to technique to master if you're just starting your eyeliner game. Any liquid liner with a sharp tip will do the trick, but we heart NYX's Epic Ink Liner because it's affordable, waterproof and vegan, too!

A pop of color

Glossier, $16 | @oliviarodrigo

Not only is this Glossier liner Olivia Rodrigo's fave, but it's super cute and long-lasting. It comes in a bunch of colors, from purple to yellow to green, so there's a shade for everybody. The No. 1 Pencil is also ultra smooth and easy to use. What's not to love?

Let's go graphic

Ulta Beauty, $23 | @irisapatow

Whether you're going to a school dance or having a bestie photo shoot, a graphic liner look is a must-have. After practicing your basic cat eye, you can experiment with some over-the-top styles to add more drama (because you can *never* have enough). This Stila liner is liquid and waterproof—it'll stay put all day long!

Make it messy

Target, $7.79 | @lunamontana

A gel liner is a little different from a liquid or pencil but can still add a unique flair to your makeup look. With gel, you use a brush applicator and apply the same way you would any other liner. The best part about this look is that it doesn't have to be perfect. A little smokiness never hurt anybody.
