How to save cash while prepping for prom

Sure, it’s easy to drop plenty of billz on your dream prom night. The hair, the makeup, the nails, we could go on…and that list doesn’t even include the sure-to-be-pricey perfect dress. But what’s essential to drop your hard-earned cash on, and what’s not? We’re demystifying the dos and don’ts of prom prep spending.

Hair

Save: The updo We’re all for the at-home updo. After all, unless you know your stylist really well, you’re taking a big risk by putting your tresses in someone else’s hands. Doing your own hair is totally doable, but requires tonsa practice. Find a few styles that you like, and spend a Saturday trying to practice them on yourself. Have Mom or your sis offer extra hands if need be, but don’t settle on something super intricate. The simpler, the better. Head HERE for inspiration.

Splurge: The cut A week or so before the big day, get a quick bang trim or lop off any dead ends. Leave this part to the professionals, trust us!

Makeup
Save: The salon app Sure, getting your makeup done by a professional is totally worth it for your wedding day. But for prom night? There aren’t nearly as many photos. And while you still wanna look amazing, is it really worth it to drop all that cash on something you’re at risk of sweating off on the dance floor just a few hours later? We say head to the makeup counter at your local department store and ask for a makeover. The experts there can help you find your best hues and give you a few at-home tips, too. What shades look best with your eye color? The answer’s right HERE.
Splurge: New products/tools Your brushes are totally abused, your mascara’s drying out and your black eyeliner pencil is down to a nub. Treat yourself to some new products and a new brush or two to make your at-home application a little more fancy and festive.
Nails
Save: The mani/pedi Buddy up with a BFF and give each other spa manis. Stick to something simple—going all Gaga with 3D nail art is probs not your best bet here. We’ve got tons of fresh ideas for your tips.

Splurge: The perf polish Finding the perfect hue to match your dress is no small feat. And a luxe polish nowadays can run you $9-$16, but you’ll have it way longer than that mani. Find out what shade best matches your personality, HERE.
