The five trends you'll wanna try in 2013: GL girl Alexa reports on fab fashions from the Z100 Jingle Ball

GL teamed up with Crayola Catwalk Creations to send one lucky fashionista to the Z100 Jingle Ball in New York City. Meet Alexa (on left), winner of our Style Scout contest, and check out her 2013 spring preview!

Hi GL girls! I’m Alexa, and I had the incredible experience of being GL’s Style Scout for the Z100 Jingle Ball concert and pre-party extravaganza in NYC. I’m super excited to share all the glam details of my night with you—and report on five fab trends for 2013…

The VIP pre-party
Walking into the huge Hammerstein Ballroom was an overwhelming feeling. I started upstairs for a meet-and-greet with Bridget Mendler, Cher Llyod and other celebs. Downstairs was filled with stands from companies like Conair, Dunkin Donuts, Duane Reade and more—and they were all gifting samples of goodies, plus they had makeup artists and hair stylists ready to transform regular girls (like me!) into glamazons for the night.

I had my hair chalked with blue highlights, a fabulous smoky eye done and left with blister Band-Aids to apply to my (very sore) feet. And even better, I got all this celeb-worthy treatment while sipping on a delicious latte—yum. Meanwhile, Neyo and Cher Llyod performed on a huge stage in the center aisle. Amazing!

One crazy concert
My arrival at Madison Square Garden was one I will never forget. For several blocks before the venue, girls were running around, gasping for air and screaming about the chance to witness the Biebs and One Direction in concert. 1D came on first, exciting everyone with “What Makes You Beautiful.” After the heartthrob boy group was Taylor Swift, in an adorable pair of red shorts with a glittery silver top and sequin shoes. The crowd had to wait until the end for Justin Bieber to come on and sing “Baby” to all of us—and every single person jumped up from their seats to jam out to his songs.

Fierce fashion trends
I love fashion—I even write my own fashion blog!—so it was awesome to check out all the styles and trends that were happening on the audience members. Jingle Ball was like a mini preview of the trends we’ll be seeing in 2013, so I put together five of my faves. The Catwalk is calling…

  • 1glitz.jpg
    Trend 1: Glitz
Sequins are huge. Short glitter dresses with fun flats, sweet sequin sweaters and glitzy accessories (like headbands and bracelets) add a glam touch to every outfit. The season for sparkles doesn’t end with the holidays—you can rock them all year, from a simple school day to a swanky soiree.

  • 3lace.jpg
    Trend 2: Lace
Lace shirts, skirts and tights are an easy way to add feminine touches to any outfit. Top a simple black lace dress with a statement necklace for a sophisticated look or add a leather jacket for a tough-yet-girly vibe.
  • 4glam.png
Pair it with: Catwalk Creations Glam Collection
Create your first-ever collection of couture using this designer’s dream kit. Special fabric (it retains its shape!) and a standing mannequin allow you to customize the fit to perfection.
  • 5prints.jpg
    Trend 3: Prints
Don’t be afraid to play with bold, graphic prints on pants, coats and accessories. Leopard elevates a classic coat from simple to stunning—just balance the look with low-key layers that won’t compete with your attention-grabbing piece.
  • 6printable_fabric.png
Pair it with: Catwalk Creations Printable Fabric
Ya know that adorbs candid of you and your bestie from NYE? Yep, you can print it right onto your pieces with printable fabric.
  • 7boyish.jpg
    Trend 4: Menswear
Touch on the boyish trend with faves stolen right out of your BF’s/brother’s/dad’s closet. Striped tuxedo pants or a fedora add a dash of on-trend masculinity to your femme faves.
  • 8hollywood.png
Pair it with: Catwalk Creations Hollywood Glam
A total must-have for your Catwalk Creations collection: This pack comes with fabrics, pearls, sequins and gems to create glam classics.
  • 9combat.jpg
    Trend 5: Edgy
A pair of combat boots adds an unmistakable element of badgirlness (yes, that’s a word!) to your ensemble and your self-confidence. Seriously, is there anything you can’t handle when rocking a pair of these fierce boots?
  • 10rock_chic.png
Pair it with: Catwalk Creations Rock Chic
Metallics, lace and leather—these are super fierce staples for every rocker-chic collection—and perf additions to your Catwalk Creations.
