Dream on with a DIY dream board

What are you most passionate about? If you don't have a clue, no worries. Get crafty and get inspired by creating your very own dream board. It'll help streamline your interests so you can figure out what you want to focus on and what you aspire to be. Follow our five simple steps to begin "The passion project" (as seen on p. 38 of GL's June/July issue) and get dreamin'.

Step 1: Board > bored

Before you reach for the stars, reach for a board. Decide what you want to serve as the background for your masterpiece collage that you'll attach all of your pictures and cutouts to. We recommend an old bulletin board, a piece of cork board, or a sheet of poster paper. You can even use a clean piece of cardboard if you like.

Step 2: Make the dreams stick

Next, determine what kinds of attachments to use to keep your sweet inspirations where you want them. Depending on the type of board you choose, you might want to go with tape (go fancy with double-stick), push pins or a glue stick.

Step 3: Stack attack

Make a pile of old magazines, newspapers, postcards and flyers. In other words, check out your fam's paper recycling bin. Keep an open mind and flip through different kinds of publications, even if you don't normally read them—you never know what you'll find.

Step 4: Lay it all out

Now that you've compiled all that paper to peruse, grab some scissors and cut out anything you see that you like. Don't overthink it—just let your creative self be drawn to whatever strikes you as inspiring. Piece together pictures, words and if you desire, add a li’l personal touch with some photos of your own.

Step 5: Take a step back

Wait until you've found plenty of cutouts before you attach everything down to your board. Then, take a few steps back and admire your work. What do you see? Are there any patterns or recurring themes? Hang it in a place you frequent a lot, like by your bed or over your desk. Let your dream board guide and inspire you. You go, girl!
