Taylor Swift has an emotional moment in concert

A couple years back, Taylor Swift was following a blog called Rockstar Ronan, a story about a boy named Ronan with cancer, neuroblastoma specifically, written by his mother, Maya Thompson. Taylor was so inspired by his story that she couldn't help but write about it, even crediting Maya as a cowriter on the track, but until now she's only performed "Ronan" in public once—at a Stand Up to Cancer event in 2012.

On Monday, with Maya Thompson in the audience during at stop on her 1989 World Tour, Tay decided to sing it again. This time, though, she had an extra reason that will make you as emotional as it made Tay.

Taylor Swift and her mom, Andrea, are one of the closest mother-daughter duo in the business. Taylor has written countless songs about their relationship ("The Best Day" and "Never Grow Up," for example) and it seems like no one supports Taylor more than her mom does. When Taylor's family heard her mother's diagnosis earlier this year, they were heartbroken, and when Tay talked about "Ronan" at her Arizona concert, she came pretty close to tears.

"I wouldn't know half as much as I know about childhood cancer and childhood cancer research if [Ronan’s mom] hadn't shared her story about her son, Ronan," Swift told her audience. "The thing about cancer is it's really, really hard to talk about... In [Maya's blog] there was this acconut of what it's like to watch cancer take over your life. Since then, I've had cancer hit really close to me in my family. Because Maya's right there, I would like you to give her a round of applause, please... I think because [Maya's] here tonight, she deserves to hear ['Ronan.']"

Ronan’s mom Maya shared the sweet moment on Instagram, writing, “I still can't believe tonight. I still can't believe you did this. This will forever be one of the most special moments of my life. Thank you @taylorswift for your beautiful heart and for never forgetting my Ro. I love you to the moon and back.”

It's hard not to be touched by Taylor's story, or by the amazingly emotional song she wrote. We're so glad that Tay's able to find the same comfort in her music as she was able to give to Maya Thompson.
