Lance Lim gives us the deets on School of Rock

We know plenty of celebs who play musicians on-screen...but what about the ones who are actually musically gifted IRL, too? Meet Lance Lim, who plays Zack on the hit Nickolodeon show School of Rock, *and* is pretty swoon-worthy when it comes to guitar (peep his YouTube channel HERE!). We were lucky enough to sit down with Lance and chat about the current season of our new fave show.

Girl's Life: School of Rock just started up again and you've played some awesome music on the show alreadywhat's your favorite genre of music to play? And what's a song you really wish you could cover that you haven’t gotten to yet?

Lance Lim: Hmm, I love all genres of music but I love the rock songs we get to play every once in a while like "We're Not Gonna Take It" and "Smells Like Teen Spirit". As far as covers, I'd really like to do a John Mayer song, I feel like that’d be so cool for us. Maybe "Neon" or "Gravity".

GL: Did you learn to play guitar for the show...or was it something you did before?

LL: My mom got me to pick up the guitar way before but I wasn’t really that interested in it, it just didn’t seem that appealing. But then School of Rock came back and I got an audition so I picked it up and I've been in love with it ever since. I can’t take my hands off of it now.

GL: What's your favorite part about playing your character Zach?

LL: He's so much more different than me which is what makes it so fun and it's interesting to put layers on his character. He’s grown a lot since season one.

GL: Are there any characteristics of his that you wish you had in real life?

LL: I guess his business man skillshe has a really good CEO side of him that you get to see, which I wish I had because I’m really not good at negotiating.

GL: What makes season two even better than the first?

LL: Oh my gosh, this season is insane compared to season one. All of our characters develop so much. Not only physically (we grew a couple inches, especially Aiden, who's taller than everyone now), but everyone learned to really embrace their own personality. For example, Zack is a lot more free and comfortable with everything now. He figures out what he really wants which I think is amazing. Our music has gotten a lot better too. We have a couple really good originals which is exciting.

GL: Awesome! One last question: You got into acting at a young age. If you weren’t acting, would you have pursued music full time?

LL: Yeah, I love the mix of music and acting but if I weren’t to do acting, most likely it would have been music. Even right now, music is one of the biggest things I want.

Have you seen School of Rock? Who's your favorite character? Let us know in the comments!
