Mason Cook's first date story is *so* embarrassing

Mason Cook wasn’t looking for fame—but it found him anyway. Here, the 17-year-old Speechless and Spy Kids 4 star spills on his unlikely rise to the top.

ON (NOT) HAVING STARS IN HIS EYES
“When I was 8, my family moved to Los Angeles from Oklahoma for a change of scenery. It wasn’t until later that I was like, ‘Wait, this is the entertainment capital of the world, so why don’t I try the whole acting thing?’ Here I am 10 years later!”

ON COOL KIDS
“I loved getting to star in Spy Kids: All the Time in the World with Rowan Blanchard. Being a spy kid is something just me and three other people—Alexa PenaVega, Daryl Sabara and Rowan—can ever say they are. It’s such a cool little thing I can’t wait to tell my kids about.”

ON FIRST-DATE FLOPS
“On my first date with my now ex-girlfriend, I took her out to a nice dinner. I was so nervous that when the waiter tried to take the menu from my hand I thought he was trying to shake it, so I randomly shook his hand! Then, the movie we wanted to see was sold out, so we had to wait 45 minutes for the next showing. Somehow we ended up dating for about six months after that…I don’t know what she saw in me!”

ON SPREADING THE LOVE
“I’m into a lot of Logic. I could listen to his songs for the rest of my life and never get sick of them. We need more love and positive vibes—and Logic’s doing a great job at spreading that. I really have respect for him.”
