Matt Cornett is spilling the HSMTMTS tea you've been thirsting for

Matt Cornett may play a self-absorbed jock in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series but IRL the 22-year-old is pretty much the anti-EJ. Catch him (along with the rest of the HSMTMTS cast) in a brand-new holiday special (premiering Dec. 11 on Disney+) but, before that, Matt drops a few key details about season two of the hit show...

GL: Have you started filming the new season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series yet?

MC: Luckily, we got a bit of a head start before the [pandemic] shutdown took place. All I can say is, season two is going to blow people's socks off. It's bigger and better.

GL: So what should fans get most excited about?

MC: Season one's music was good but, dang, this new music is really good. Also, there are a lot of new relationships that are going to be explored—different friendships and unexpected pairings. You'll see nice connections and new friendships form. Obviously, we haven't seen everything, so even I'm excited to learn what's going to happen.

GL: How can fans expect to see EJ grow and change, especially after his big moment playing Troy at the end of season one?

MC: Last season, EJ was still trying to figure out who he was. Now, he'll start exploring different avenues. He'll realize he doesn't have to put on this façade of being the perfect guy. We'll see him figuring out that being yourself is truly what's best.

GL: What do you personally want to see from EJ?

MC: I'd like to see him think about others a little bit more. Last season, he didn't have a relationship with anyone other than Nini and Ashlyn. Now, he won't be too cool to talk to anybody.

GL: Speaking of friendships, we heard that you and Sofia Wylie are close friends in real life.

MC: Sofia is one of my best friends and means the world to me. My camera roll has hundreds if not thousands of videos of Sofia doing something funny or me secretly recording her while she's goofing around on set. They're some of the most hilarious videos ever...and will have to come out at some point!
