Olivia Rodrigo is Billboard's 2022 Woman of the Year—and we're *so* here for it

Last night, Olivia Rodrigo was honored as Billboard's 2022 Woman of the Year—a vast accomplishment in a debut era. She accepted her award and celebrated the female songwriters who came before her, while also encouraging young girls who write their own music.

Strong women who are making significant strides in the music industry are presented with the award (along with the entire night commemorating amazing female artists, producers and executives pushing for inclusivity). Prior honorees include Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish and Ariana Grande.

"It's not always easy being a young woman in the music industry, but I've found so much strength from the female songwriters and artists who have come before me," Olivia said in her acceptance speech.

Although Olivia has broken streaming records with her debut album Sour, she still relates to and uplifts the girls "writing songs every day in their journals on their bedroom floors." She promises that women are working to make the industry more inclusive.

Opening up the award show with her performance of "deja vu," Olivia balanced girly and edgy wearing a pink maxi slip dress, black platform boots and her signature silver necklaces. An all-female band played behind her while she sang and danced around. Her look was giving us *total* Y2K realness.

On the red carpet and during the award show, Olivia rocked the same chunky platform boots—but instead wore a long, white maxi dress with belts as straps designed by Area. Stylists Chloe and Chenelle Delgadillo added three belts to her waist, creating a corset-style look. This outfit *totally* reflects her personal style.

Despite all the glitz and glamour of the past year, Olivia still stays true to who she is and values raising up other women. So if you're a young female writing songs in your bedroom, keep going. Olivia Rodrigo is cheering for you.
