Rotting Teeth!
Been chompin’ down on sweets and guzzlin’ sports drinks lately? You may want to rethink that after you hear this! This week The Week reported on a study done by the University of Texas Health Science Center on the dental health of 900 local middle schoolers. Turns out 30% of the students were already showing signs of tooth erosion! Ick!
The cause? Kids today gulp down tons of soda, sports drinks, and other sugar-shocked bevs, which contain acid that slowly eats away at the tooth’s surface. Many kids don’t even realize their teeth are eroding because it causes no pain.
Want to prevent dental erosion? The fluoride in tap water can help protect your teeth, so instead of reaching for another bottled water, refill from the sink. Feeling tempted to reach for a soda? Think of that 5th grade science experiment where you left a tooth in a can of soda, and it disintegrated after a month!!
