7 lessons to learn from Nelson Mandela

A great man has left us today, but his words and lessons are with us forever. Nelson Mandela was elected the first black president of South Africa after he was released from 27 years in prison. He won a Nobel Peace Prize for his continued fight for freedom and human rights. Perhaps his greatest legacy is his success in ending apartheid—an extreme system of segregation in South Africa. Here are 7 quotes from the man himself that will stick with us always as lessons to live by…

#1 “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

#2 “There is no passion to be found playing small—in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.”

#3 “It always seems impossible until it’s done.”

#4 “We must use time wisely and forever realize that the time is always ripe to do right.”

#5 “I like friends who have independent minds because they tend to make you sense problems from all angles.”

#6 “To be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.”

#7 “Resentment is like drinking poison and then hoping it will kill your enemies.”
