Feel Good Friday: So-called "World's Ugliest Woman" shows the most inspiring way to tune out bullies

Let’s face, it’s hard not being hard on yourself. There’s enough already pressure to fit in and be perfect while tuning out bullies. But Lizzie Velasquez proves that you should never let the ugly words of others define who you are.

Born with Neonatal Progeriod Syndrome, a rare genetic disease that prevents her from gaining weight (she’s never weighed more than 65 pounds) and left her blind in her right eye, Lizzie realized she didn’t look normal when her schoolmates started treating her differently.

But she didn’t let it keep her down. Instead, she found silver linings to her illness, like stuffing her face with Twinkies without gaining an ounce, or simply turning her head to block out an annoying person. More importantly, she stayed positive and true to herself, no matter how rude people were.

That all changed a few years ago. In high school she found video of her picture titled “World’s Ugliest Woman,” seen by millions. And if you think the title was harsh, your heart will break hearing what people said in the comments. “Kill it with fire,” one said. “Why don’t you do the world a favor and put a gun to your head,” said another.

She was devastated. But those cruel bullies didn’t dampen her spirits for long. Lizzie used those hurtful words to fuel her passion: inspiring others as a motivational speaker. And she’s got this life-changing talk to prove it…

Not enough time to watch the whole vid? Here’s our fave quote from the talk:
