This promposal was a total dance-saster

Promposals are supposed to be a super special moment, one you’ll remember and treasure for a long time. But for senior Carly Walling, things didn't go exactly as planned.

Each year, it seems that more and more boyfriends are embracing the idea of promposals and bringing out all the stops for the big ask. Carly's boyfriend, Dylan Buckley, knew she would be expecting something big, and so he came up with (what he thought was) a great idea.

Since Carly works as a lifeguard—and the prom is scheduled to happen on a ship in their home state of California—Dylan's ocean-themed ask was beyond adorable and totally appropriate. He tossed on a captain’s hat, whipped up a poster and waited for Carly to come home.

“Carly, I need someone special to keep me afloat for our dance on the boat. Prom with me?” Dylan asked on his sign, right before he handed Carly a little gift basket that included a cute pic of the couple, pink daisies, Ghiradelli chocolates and some salt water taffy. Sounds perfect, right?

According to Elite Daily, that's when things went wrong.

The promposal itself went fine—but when the couple tried to attend a basketball game immediately after, Carly began to feel itchy and soon broke out into a rash and hives along her collarbone and neck. She even felt her throat start toswell up. Carly was having an allergic reaction and had to be rushed to the hospital.

“The nurses were giving me worried looks from the moment I walked in,” Carly said. “I guess by that time the reaction had reached my face and my eyes were swollen shut.”

The reason behind the reaction? Likely the taffy—from what was supposed to be a perf promposal. Our best suggestion for future promposals is this: Make sure your potential date isn’t allergic to anything beforehand! (And if you have allergies, check the ingredients first so you won’t have to deal with this prob yourself.)

Have you ever had a promposal that didn't go according to plan? How did you handle it?
