These U by Kotex tampons were just recalled

This is definitely scary

Kotex brand tampons has just announced that they are recalling some of their tampons.

The exact tampons being recalled by Kotex in the United States and Canada are the U by Kotex Sleek Tampons, Regular Absorbency that were produced between Oct. 7, 2016 and Oct. 16, 2018, and distributed between Oct. 17, 2016 and Oct. 23, 2018.

According to the company that makes the tampons, those who have used the tampons have experiend some not great result: tampons have unraveled/come apart during removal and some users have even needed medical attention to remove tampon pieces they couldn't remove themselves. Even worse: some have also experienced infection, irritation and injury due to the faulty tampons.

Note: No other U by Kotex products are included in this recall, meaning the U by Kotex Sleek, Super and Super Plus Tampons are all safe to use.

There's no doubt that this is scary. If you're a Kotex user, there are a few steps you can take to ease your worries.

What to do:

1. If you are experiencing discomfort of any kind down there (in general *or* after using one of the recalled tampons), talk to a trusted adult and see a doctor if necessary.

2. Check to see if you're using one of the recalled tampons. You can do so by visiting Kotex's recall FAQ page, which provides instructions for locating the lot number on your box of Kotex. This number will determine when your tampons were distributed and purchased.

3. If you're currently using one of the recalled tampons, stop using them right away and dispose of them.

4. Share this story! Your friends, sisters, cousins, classmates, etc. may be using these tampons and may not know about the recall.
