Everything you need to know about the 2022 midterm elections

You've probably heard about the midterm elections happening today. Maybe you've been scrolling through Instagram and TikTok and have noticed all the posts about voting. Or maybe you've overheard your family talking about them and are wanting to learn more yourself. Regardless, educating ourselves on important events like the midterm elections is *super* important—and you've come to right place for all the information you need.

What are the midterm elections?

Good question! The midterm elections occur every two years. The midterms aren't for electing a president—they're for electing members of Congress (and other important officials).

There are quite a few congressional seats up for grabs this year, which is why it is so imperative that we all stay well-informed and educated on what's on the ballot. Some ways we can do that include having open discussions with those around us (including our besties) and doing our own research (using credible sources, ofc) on candidates.

Why is voting so important?

Celebrities such as Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish and Hailey Bieber have all advocated for the importance of voting on social media. You may think to yourself, What is the big deal? Why is voting *so* important?

To put it simply, voting is important because *every* voice matters. In a world where sharing information is so quick and easy, it can be difficult to feel like your thoughts make a difference, especially when you are exposed to millions of different opinions at the click of a button. Nevertheless, every voice deserves to be heard—and voting is an important way to use your own voice for change.

What if I'm not old enough to vote? What are other ways I can get involved?

You may think that because you're not eligible to vote yet, it means that there's nothing you can do. Spoiler alert: Not true! For one, we can always look to spreading awareness, whether it be through social media or simply having open and honest conversations with those around you.

Reposting helpful sources of information about these elections may help other people see and learn about them. Another thing you can do is continuously stay informed through your own research. Staying proactive in educating yourself on these events will help you when you get a chance to vote in the future. And for even more ways to get involved, click here!

No matter what, maintaining an open mind and consistently looking for ways we can make change are very important in doing our part. Every voice matters.
