Movie musicals we want honored at tonight's Oscars

There’s nothing better than a movie you can watch and sing along to, which is why we’re super pumped that this year, the Oscars will be recognizing movie musicals in a special tribute. Yep, that’s right. Tonight, the “biggest night in Hollywood,” is gonna honor three movie musicals (Les Mis, Chicago, Dreamgirls) from the past decade. We think it’s awesome, but we also think there are even more titles that should be on that list. Here are a few more we came up with.

Hairspray
We’re paying homage to this classic (the first version premiered in 1988, with a newer one following in 2007) because it’s got everything a good movie musical needs—catchy tunes, a cool story and a great message. We also secretly love that this flick takes place in Charm City, where GL is based.
Our fave song from Hairspray: “Without Love”

High School Musical
OK, so the entire HSM series wasn’t super serious (or entirely Oscar-worthy), but we loved them all the same. All are funny, have a good plot and loaded with dance-worthy tunes.
Our fave HSM song: “Breaking Free” (HSM), “The Music in Me” (HSM2), “High School Musical” (HSM3)

Footloose
Footloose is the story of a boy with a rebellious side who’s willing to question authority—for all the right reasons. There’s a bit of love, a bit of trouble, and a whole lot of fun.
Our fave song from Footloose (the 2011 version): “Footloose”

Pitch Perfect
This movie musical definitely has to be the funniest one on the list. Every character is hilarious, especially “Fat Amy” (Rebel Wilson).
Our fave song from Pitch Perfect: “You’re Gonna Miss Me”

Mamma Mia!
This movie has some of our fave actors, Colin Firth and Amanda Seyfried, and provides tons of entertainment.
Our fave track from Mamma Mia: “Mamma Mia”

Be sure to catch the Oscars tonight at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT on ABC. Whether you’re a movie musical maven or not, there’s sure to be plenty of cool stuff.
