Must List

THINK PINK! It's not too late to make a difference in the fight against breast cancer! We tell ya how!

It can happen to anyone—your mom, your grandmother, your aunt—breast cancer does not discriminate.  According to the Susan G. Komen official website, over 180,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008.  Think you can’t be a superhero?  Well, think again.  There are tons of ways to get involved, fight back and even save a life!

Race for the Cure:
Get a good workout and support a good cause?  Yes, you can do both when you sign up for Susan G. Komen’s Race for the Cure, which raises money and awareness for breast cancer.  The race also celebrates survivors and honors those who weren’t so fortunate.  Round up your family and friends, and then start a team!  To find a race near you, visit www.komen.org today.

Shop ‘til you drop:
Almost every store or brand will sell breast cancer awareness products this month, even M&Ms!  Some of our fave items?  C.O. Bigelow Cancer Vixen Wild Berry Hand Wash is available for only $12 in a delicious scent. And when you need a snack, head over to Panera Bread for some scrumptious Pink Ribbon Bagels available for only $0.89 during the month of October.  With awesome (and cheap!) deals such as these, you don’t need to break the bank to fight back cancer!

Party like a hero:
GL girls don’t need a reason to party, but raising money for breast cancer awareness is a very good one!  Instead of gifts, kindly ask your guests to donate money to the charity of your choice.  Not only will you be helping out a good cause, but your guests will feel great about themselves, too.  Giving back never felt so good.

Get crafty:
What girl doesn’t love ribbons?  Head to your local craft store and buy a large spool of pink ribbon.  Cut the ribbon into smaller breast cancer ribbons and sell them to classmates, friends and family for a buck each.  Donate all the proceeds to your favorite breast cancer charity and make a difference in someone’s life.

Holla back:
You already know how to chat up that cutie from chem class on AIM and you can’t stop e-mailing your BFFs about this weekend’s plans, so why not put your techno prowess to good use and e-mail someone who can make a difference?  All you have to do is visit www.standupt2cancer.org to email your Congressperson to let them know it’s time to end cancer once and for all.  The email is already written for you!  All you have to do is sign your name and send it away!  How much easier can it get?

Help those in need:
While you’re cruising the Internet, go to Click to Give @ The Breast Cancer Site to help provide free mammograms to women who can’t afford them across the country.  A mammography exam uses X-rays to examine the breasts and typically provides early detection of breast cancer.  The earlier breast cancer is discovered, the better the chances of survival are for patients.  The best part?  One hundred percent of money from this website goes to charity and it’s FREE!  So what are you waiting for?  Start clicking!

You don’t need to be rich or a celebrity to stand up for a good cause.  Every donation makes a difference.  Remember, knowledge is power—the more you know, the more you can help.  Spread the word!
