The Summer Before Boys

The Summer Before Boys by Nora Raleigh Baskin is the perfect summer read with just enough raw emotion to keep you turning page after page. A follow up to the award-winning fiction novel Anything But Typical, it’s a powerful story of two girls, family and best friends, as they grow up and grow apart.

Want four more reasons to pick up this fresh title? Read on…

1. It’s totally touching. BFFs Eliza and Julia lose themselves in the wildest summer of their lives as they fight the fact that Julia’s mother is risking her life in the National Guard. Julia tries to keep her cool, but no matter how hard she tries, she finds herself spending all her time thinking about what could happen. Only a few pages in, we could already feel her pain. Trust us, you will, too.

2. It lists tonsa reasons why your girls are always better than a guy. All in the same summer, Julia meets the so-called guy of her dreams. And on top of that, he may just be the reason why she’s losing her family and herself. Within the first few chapters, you’ll see just why your girls should always come before your boy…no matter how much you think you’re in love.

3. There’s loads of complicated middle grade drama. Julia and Eliza are going through that transitional period from pre-teen to teenage years. These girls are confused, a little bit awkward and, after reading this book, lovable.

4. There are real girls with real issues. Baskin paints a very real picture of what it’s like for us girls. While Julia may have it rougher than us, her story can teach us a lot about real life.
