Help save the animals with The Last Wild

If you’re craving a literary journey like Where the Wild Things Are or James and the Giant Peach, then The Last Wild by Piers Torday is a book you’ll definitely want to pick up (and never put it down).

Having just hit shelves on March 18, this new and wonderfully adventurous book follows Kester Jaynes, a 12-year-old boy who lost his mom and has not been able to speak for years—to anyone. That is, until a host of charming critters make their way into his room and he discovers that he can not only understand what they’re saying, but speak to them too.

Before visiting Kester, a disease wiped out a majority of the planet’s animal population, making the creatures that enter his room some of the only animals left on the planet. The critters, which include a bunch of pesky pigeons and a pushy cockroach, are desperately in need of Kester’s help.

If the strange-yet-wonderful plot doesn’t pull you in, the hidden environmental message just might. It’s a perf page-turner for spring that’ll def inspire you to be kinder to mother nature.

Be sure to pick up a copy of The Last Wild (in stores now!) then come back and let us know your thoughts.
