Ruby Unscripted

Ruby Unscripted, by Cindy Martinusen-Coloma, is all about change and finding yourself. Ruby moves from her small town of Cottonwood, California to the eclectic (and privileged) Marin County. It’s tough for her—she was always the standout at her old school—but in Marin she’s average compared to her fellow students. On top of that her older brother, who was supposed to move with her, decides last minute to stay in their old town with their father and his new wife.

Ruby struggles to fit in with a new and sometimes intimidating crowd while still remaining close with her friends from Cottonwood. How much can she change without abandoning the girl her old friends (especially BFF, Kate) know and love? But on the other hand, change might be exactly what she needs. This book follows her path to find balance between maturing into a cultured city girl all the while keeping her small town innocence.

Ruby Unscripted is great for girls who find themselves in a similar sitch—if you’ve just moved, reading it may be a fun parallel to your own life. It’s a lighthearted, easy read, making it great for the beach, too.
