CRUSHES

Advice

Is it desperate to text your crush first?

So you finally nabbed your crush’s number—congrats! Now comes the hard part: actually texting them. Your head is probably a jumble of: "Should they reach out to me? I mean, they seemed to really like me. I really like them too, but will it come off as desperate if I text them?"

The answer: *Definitely* not.

Texting your crush is totally scary to do, but there's nothing desperate about it. Simply, if you like someone, texting them is a sweet way to let them know they're on your mind. Our best advice (here, and most everywhere in life) is to just go for it, so here are a few tips that will make you feel more confident, strong and friendly before you dive in.

Start with a cute opener. You don't need a lengthy or bold first text. Something as simple as "Hey! What are your Halloween plans?" can spark an entire conversation.

Take a sec before you respond. Once you nail down the first text and start talking, consider each reply. This gives them a moment to become even *more* interested in what you'll say next, and it allows you to craft the perfect text.

Going emoji-crazy is probably not a good idea. It's much more personable to share your emotions through words than emojis. A sweet 😍 or 😊 is an adorbs way to show that you're into them, but for the most part think about what you would say to them IRL and then just type that.

Don’t freak out if they don't reply right away. In the same way that you're taking a moment to consider your words, they probably are too.

Be yourself. Above all else, be your natural, fab self and let them know who you really are. Don’t text things just because you think it will impress them.
