Summertime means party time! What better time to catch your crush’s eye with a sweet new outfit. If you’re convinced he won’t even notice your get-up, guess again. We asked some of our real-life BGFs what they thought of summer’s hottest trends. And, well, they have more opinions than we thought they would! Here’s their take.

High-Waisted Shorts

Christian, 16: “I hate this trend! They look like old man pants. I do not get it.”

Jake, 15: “Why? Just why? What is the point?”

Will, 16: “This is a look that some girls can pull off—keyword: some. You gotta be careful what you’re wearing them with and how.”
Neon

Christian: “I like neon, to a point. If it’s crazy bright, it just hurts my eyes. But if it’s slightly neon, that’s cool.”

Jake: “It depends on the location and scenario, but it can either hit or miss.”

Will: “I agree, neon is very hit or miss. It’s very attention grabbing. If you do want to wear neon, I’d try it in a more simple fabric, like cotton, so it’s not too overpowering.”
Off-the-Shoulder Shirts

Christian: “I’m not crazy about this one. It makes it look like the shirt is just too big for you.”

Jake: “These bug me for some reason. I get all OCD and want to fix the shoulder!”

Will: “I think shirts with normal straps are better, personally, just because some girls look uncomfortable when they’re constantly adjusting how it’s falling and you can see discomfort on their face when they’re trying to fix it.”
Tie Dye

Christian: “I love tie dye! It’s so down-to-earth and cool, and the girls that wear it are always fun!”

Jake: “Tie dye is cool. It’s fun and it reminds me of summer.”

Will: “I’m not sure how I feel about really bright tie-dye. It can be a little too intense. But I’ve seen girls rock more faded tie dye dresses and they look awesome!”
Bermuda Shorts

Christian: “Eh, I haven’t seen them pulled off well, but maybe it can be done.”

Jake: “No! I like short shorts!”

Will: “Again, hit or miss. It’s all about how you wear it.”
Sundresses

Christian: “Sundresses are great. They look good on everyone and they’re seasonal and pretty.”

Jake: “Sundresses are hot! I love when girls wear dresses, everyone looks better in a sundress.”

Will: “Sundresses are almost always great. I love sundress season! Who wouldn’t? I love when girls drift from the classic floral pattern to stripes or other fun patterns.”
