Not ready for your first kiss? Here's what you should do

My BF and I have been dating for a little while, and I’ve heard that he is telling people he is ready for our first kiss. The only problem is that I’m not. What should I do?

First kiss jitters are natural for everyone. Yup, even your boyfriend. That said, sometimes guys feel like they need to rush their first kiss just to be cool. If you heard from his best friend that he’s ready to move onto the next phase of your relationship, it might not be the most reliable source. There is a chance he was just boasting to his boys about kissing you, but he might not actually mean it.

A good rule to live by with physical relationships is that if you aren’t able to talk to one another maturely about whatever you want to do, you aren’t ready as a couple to do it. Perhaps the next step to take would be to talk to him about it in person. Texting might diffuse some of the awkwardness, but you also won’t be able to hear his tone of voice or see his body language when he talks.

If your BF is the right guy for you, he will understand when you tell him that you are not ready to kiss just yet. A good guy will stay with you until you are ready. And if all he wants to do is lock lips, he doesn’t deserve to be with you. It’s OK to send him on his way if he can’t respect your feelings about not kissing yet.

The most important thing about your first kiss is not to rush it. If you don’t think you’re ready, you can tell your BF and he should respect your decision. Talking calmly in person is always the best thing to do in a relationship, whether it’s about kissing or something else. Your confidence in yourself will definitely shine through, and you’ll feel a lot less pressure to pucker up, too!
