Ask Cliff: How to get over that special someone

Hey girls, hope everyone is having a great week. If your days have been occupied by trying to move on from someone, then say no more. Here's how to get over that special person if they just don't feel the same way.

What should you do when you hopelessly cannot get over a guy who doesn’t feel the same way?

First off, just remember that life goes on. There is not one person on this planet that hasn't been in this sitch before. Everyone has liked someone who hasn’t liked them back at one point or another––myself included. What I am getting at is that these things are going to happen. There will be times when you like a boy and he doesn’t feel the same way. You shouldn’t look at this in a negative way, though, because there's another guy out there that you are meant for and who will share your same feelings. I know it sucks right now, but you will get over it.

If you're still working on moving on, try finding things you enjoy to occupy your time and that'll distract you in a positive way. Maybe hang out with friends more, go to the mall to get that shirt you've been eyeing or go watch a movie you've been dying to see.

Whenever I am trying to get over a girl, I try to keep myself busy in any way I can. Personally, I like going out with my friends because they never fail to make me laugh. Sometimes I will go for a run or hit the gym (which is a great distraction). Not only is a good workout sesh healthy and productive, it'll also keep all those thoughts about *him* out of your head. Movies are another great way to help you focus on something else. But whatever you do, DO NOT—and I repeat, DO NOT—watch any Nicholas Sparks films. They'll just make you mad or, even worse, bum you out. Those movies can be evil at times (seriously). Sure, it's fun watching The Notebook when things are going great with your BF, but if you're pining after someone (or if you've recently broken up) and it's on...you'll hate it (and I say that from personal experience).

As for things to avoid, just don’t creep his social media pages. It won't help seeing him doing things you wish you were doing with him. Instead, block him, delete him or hide his feed. Focus on other things like being outside and hangin' with your BFF who is always there for you no matter what.

I guess what I am trying to say is don't let something like this keep you from enjoying yourself. After all, though it might feel like it sometimes, it's not the end of the world. There are plenty of other boys out there that you can grow feelings for down the road. Remember, just because that boy wasn’t for you doesn’t mean there’s not someone else out there who is. Sometimes you gotta be turned down before you can be wanted.
