12 productive ways to keep busy after a breakup

Times can be tough after a breakup, especially when it comes to filling the time that you used to spend with your significant other. These 12 tips will not only help keep you busy, but also help you move on.

1. Take up a new hobby

There are no restrictions on this one. Anything that you've ever wanted to try, now is your time to do so—whether it's painting, playing an instrument or baking, the  choice is yours!

2. Spend extra time with your friends and family

The abundance of time that you have on your hands now is crucial to be spent with your friends and family. Now is the perfect time to deepen your relationships with all of your loved ones, and spend some extra time with those that you haven't seen in a minute.

3. Learn something new

Exercising your mind is so important and such a great way to keep busy after a messy break up. Indulge in a subject that you may not learn about in school, but that you've always had interest in. The more interested you are in whatever you are learning, the more focused you will be on that subject, keeping your mind away from other thoughts.

4. Re-organize

Being organized is the key to feeling refreshed in all areas of your life.  Not only will it be easier to find what you need, but you will feel like you have a better head on your shoulders.

5. Sweat it out

Working out may not be the *most* fun, but it's a healthy way to deal with stressors in your life. Find an activity that's fun and also makes you sweat.  Exercising releases a hormone that makes you happy and will put you in a better mood for the rest of your day.

6. Volunteer

Nothing will make you feel better than helping others.  The best part about volunteering is that you can volunteer to do just about anything your heart desires, like working at an animal shelter, assisting in a pottery studio or instructing at a rec center.

7.  Start a new Pinterest board

Pinterest is always a good way to pass the time and keep yourself busy. The endless amounts of crafts and DIYs to try makes it a perfect way to occupy your mind.

8. Make dinner for you and your fam

Cooking dinner, or any meal for that matter, for your family is a great way to pass the time and help strengthen the bond between you and your loved ones.

9. Practice yoga

Yoga is one of the best ways to help you focus on your body-mind connection.  It allows you to have the time to focus on what your body is telling you it needs versus what your brain has been telling you to focus on.

10. Create a new 'feel good' playlist you can jam to

Nothing says 'confidence booster' like a crop of songs that make you feel amazing.

11. Keep a journal

Keeping a journal is the best way to let all of your feelings out. Once you've written them all down, read your entries back to find out what issues you need to focus on the most.

12. Set a goal

If you want to do something, quit waiting and set your mind to it and work to achieve it! There's no time like the present.
