Halloween isn’t complete without some seasonal music! The songs are the third best part of celebrating (besides candy and costumes, of course!). Here’s our countdown of six classic Halloween hits that define the boo-rific holiday. Add them to your personal playlist, blast them at your Halloween party and prepare to have a *scary* good time.

"The Monster Mash"
This song came out in 1962, but it doesn’t look like it’s being retired anytime soon. With old-timey vocals, a catchy chorus and covers by everyone from Kidz Bop to The Beach Boys, Bobby Boris Pickett’s “The Monster Mash” is the only way to kick off a Halloween playlist. (Plus: did you know he made a Christmas version?)

"The Time Warp"
“The Time Warp” hails from the 1975 movie-musical adaptation The Rocky Horror Picture Show. It’s pretty popular, so you might’ve heard it at a hoco dance or a wedding. But since the movie and musical it’s from are spooky season classics themselves, it only makes sense to include it on your set list. 

"Thriller"
With an iconic, horror-movie inspired music video, Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” started a craze around dancing like a zombie. Your parents and teachers might have more experience with these moves, but it’s never too late to learn—or improv—being undead. Bonus points if you’re dressed as a zombie!

"Somebody’s Watching Me"
Chock-full of references to classic horror-movie scenes, “Somebody’s Watching Me” is another 80s’ hit that’s revived every year on October 31st. Recorded by the artist Rockwell with Michael Jackson on the chorus, the song’s funky motown beat is practically made for dancing.

"This Is Halloween"
Who can forget the ultimate Halloween anthem from Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas? “This Is Halloween” is a fun celebration of all things spooky and scary. You’re probably already nostalgia-watching the film, so listening to the song (and the rest of the soundtrack) on repeat is the logical next step.

"Ghostbusters"
Rounding out our countdown is yet another frightening fan-favorite, this time from the iconic movie Ghostbusters (if you haven’t seen the original or the remake, you may have seen the costumes on season two of Stranger Things). Ghostbusters is ingrained in pop culture, thanks in no small part to the awesomeness that is the theme song, created by Ray Parker Jr. Who you gonna call?
