Perf prezzie: Paper towel seedling pots

Earth Day is comin’ up fast, and just a week and a half later is Mother’s Day. Pay your respects to Mother Nature and craft a gift for your own mama with this fab how-to from carolynshomework.blogspot.com.

These biodegradable seedling pots will nurture flowers and herbs before they’re ready to be transplanted into the ground, making it a totally perfect belated prezzie for the Earth, or an early gift for a mom who loves to garden or cook. Wanna know the best thing? You probably have most of the necessary materials in your house already.

What you’ll need:

2 paper towel rolls

Scissors

Twine

Potting soil

Seeds

Planting tray

Pebbles

What you’ll do:

1. Cut the paper towel rolls into four equal pieces.

2. Place in the planting tray on top of a layer of pebbles, fill with soil and add seeds.

3. Wrap and tie a piece of twine around each pot to keep the tube from unraveling when you water your seedlings. You can also put moss around each tube to keep them from wiggling around.

4. When the seedlings are big enough to be transferred to the ground, you’ll need to remove the twine, but because the cardboard paper towel roll is biodegradable, you can transfer your baby plants into the soil and leave them inside their tube.
