How To: Get a style makeover!

As you ring in the New Year, ring in new style too. From DIY embellishments to accessories galore, we’ve got five ideas that will help make your 2010 wardrobe so very 2011.

Embellish. Add a little sparkle to your wardrobe with rhinestones and studs. Use glue and get creative with gear from your local craft store. Then, apply them to plain tee, sunglasses or even inexpensive ballet flats for a fresh feel.

Try a diff silhouette. Stuck on skinnies? Constantly in blazers? This year snag a couple new pieces that have diff shapes than the ones you normally rock. Opt for a longer skirt if you’re always wearing minis and swap your standard sweater for a motorcycle jacket or hippie-chic vest.

Button update. Breathe some new life into your cardis with quirky buttons. Pick some out at a sewing or vintage shop and ask your mom for a little help replacing your cardi’s old buttons with them. The result? An old cardi gone new and cool.

Accessorize. Change up your look with scarves, jewelry, hats and gloves. Try pearls with a dress to go preppy; take that same dress and add a scarf the next time you wear it for an urban vibe. Stock up on cheap pieces at Good Will or swap with your BFFs to change up your wardrobe.

Rock new hair or makeup. Sure, it can be a little scary to chop your locks or step out in major lipstick. But playing around with your look is totally fun (especially if you have some free time over break). Right now we’re particularly sweet on deep plum lips, bronze eye shadow and choppy bobbed locks. Will you give them a whirl in 2011?
