Make your washed-out weekend amazing

Cool weekend plans curbed by Irene? Stop pouting and follow our fab tips for adding some color to a gray and rainy day. Don’t forget to stay safe if the ‘cane is coming your way!

Rethink your rainwear
There’s nothing like a major storm to make us all ponder our ponchos (and wellies, obvi). Too old? Too drab? Shop (virtually) for one this weekend and then snap it up the next time you’re at the mall.

Craft up a storm
Crank the sunshine by busting out your brightest craft supplies. Paint, gimp, clay, oil pastels, yarn—whatever you have handy. Spend a couple hours getting a jumpstart on holiday gifts, make awesome decorations for your room or whip up something sweet for your mom (why not?).

We’re hooked on these cute bracelet DIYs from our friends at Purl Bee.

Break out the notebook and pens
Hey, GL is holding our first-ever fiction contest. A day spent indoors is the best time to channel your inner scribe and complete a submission (or three!). Get all the deets HERE.

Master tricky beauty maneuvers
Got nothing else to do? Break out the brushes and attempt to master a smoky eye. Or attempt to master the ever classic French braid.

Cozy up to the classics
If you’re a movie-lover, surf the TV for old-school black and white flicks (like the original rom-com It Happened One Night). More of a lit chick? Peruse the bookshelf for books every girl has gotta read, like The Great Gatsby

And 10 more things to do when it’s icky out...
Become an expert. Geek out and look into topics you’ve always been crazy curious about, like the Renaissance.
Practice yoga. It takes up zero space and it’ll kill your cooped-up stress.
Hold a nail polish swap. You and your buds can get out of the house? Get together with your almost-new nail polishes and go fishing for a new hue.
Practice your photography. Snap, snap. Instant memories (or a scrapbook of still-life photos).
Write a letter. Yes, an old-fashioned one. Send it to a faraway friend or relative.
Create a vacay shadowbox. Organize all those ticket stubs and souvenirs you have into a cool display.
Stop obsessing. Pick one thing you obsess over (your bod? a boy?) and take the time to break the unhealthy habit. Really!
Take our quizzes. We won’t tell if you do them more than once to get the “right” answer.
Start a storm clean-up biz. Once the weather clears, offer to pick up twigs and stand up lawn furniture for your neighbors. Nothing dangerous, though!
Bake a pie for your fam. Play peacemaker with the fam and supply them with sweets.
