Back-to-school sleepover celebration

Whether you head back after Labor Day or you’re already hitting the halls, we bet you’re dyin’ for some quality time with your best school sweeties. Forget your first-day worries (we’ve got fix-its for all of your fears!) and get psyched for the best school year ever. This is gonna be one of the records books!

Invite your crew

The size of this soiree is totally up to you. You can invite just your besties, your small social circle or you’re whole lunch table. Cute invitations, like an apple cut out of cardstock, are a must. Write “Take a bite out of back-to-school!” on one side and the details of your party on the other, then hand deliver or mail, depending on how far in advance you will be holding your sleepover.

Lunch box bites

Serve up a homemade spread for your sweeties. You can pack a bag lunch for each of your babes, or stick to a buffet so everyone can help themselves. For your main course, choose your favorite cafeteria lunch dish. We’re thinking PB&J finger sandwiches, tuna or chicken salad sammies, miniature slider burgers or tacos. For sides, go healthy with raw carrots and celery along with hummus and fresh fruit. Yum!

Terrific tunes

Get in the back-to-school spirit with a playlist packed with school-themed songs. Some of your favorites: “ABC” by the Jackson 5, “Fifteen” by Taylor Swift, “Be True to Your School” by the Beach Boys, “Who Says” by Selena Gomez and “To Sir With Love” by Lulu.

Get crafty

Check out your BTS shopping list and see what sort of supplies you can DIY. Folders, notebooks, binders and pens are easy to decorate. Ask each of your guests to bring a pile—enough for each guest to snag one or two—of one type of school supply. You, as the hostess, can put together an array of decorations, from old magazines to glitter pens and markers. Be sure to have lots of glue and scissors on hand! Deck your bags

Have each chica tote along her backpack or book bag of choice for a little DIY decorating. We love customizing our school bags with iron-on patches, sew-on decals and whimsical buttons. To create your own, snag a kit, like Chronicle Books’ The Button Factory, along with some cute fabric.
