How to have a fab Memorial Day cookout

Memorial Day is pretty great. After all, who doesn't love food, family and a three-day weekend?! But the holiday is also about remembering and honoring those who have died serving our country. It's important to recognize just how much armed forces members do for us. This festive party is a great way to celebrate American heroes and give a little back to the community while you do it.

Make cards.
Homemade cards are a great way to say thanks to veterans, so gather some pretty paper and get to work. They'll be grateful to know they're appreciated, and it's sure to bring a smile to their face. If you don't know any, send the cards out to local veterans' hospitals and organizations. Or find an organization online like Operation Gratitude or A Million Thanks

Share stories.
We all know someone (or know someone who knows someone) who has served, and we know the bravery it takes. At the party, share your favorite stories of veterans you know. You may be surprised by how many of your friends have been impacted by members of the military and it's important to remember the sacrifices people made for our freedom.

Have a barbeque.
Memorial Day isn't Memorial Day without a cookout! Grill up some burgers and dogs and spend some time in the sun. Plan a water fight or outdoor game with your friends and family. There's really no better way to kick off summer.

Go to a local event.
Check out local parades and events in your area. There's always something fun going on for Memorial Day, and it's the perfect end to all your festivities. Get dressed up in your most patriotic gear and show your support for our military.
