Celebrate Election Day with these patriotic cake pops

Election Day is here! In just 24 hours we are *finally* going to know who our new president is after watching endless commercials and news stories focused on the two candidates and hearing the debates between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. It's the end of the campaigns and the beginning of four years with a new American leader. Whether or not you’re interested in politics, today is a very exciting day for every US citizen which means you should celebrate with a yummy patriotic treat.

Being the Starbucks lovers we are, we thoroughly enjoy biting into a delicious cake pop every once in a while. The Starbucks ones aren’t red, white and blue though and buying a few from behind the glass just isn’t as much fun as making them yourself (which you have time to do since you’re not in school). Here’s the perfect recipe for patriotic cake pops that you can snack on while you watch the polls.

Ingredients:

A box of your fave cake mix and the ingredients needed from the back of the box (or use your go-to recipe)
¾ can cream cheese frosting
Blue chocolate melts
Red chocolate melts
White sprinkles
White chocolate
50 lollipop sticks
Wax paper

Directions:

1. Bake cake according to the box directions or your own recipe then let it rest until completely cool.

2. Break the cake into crumbs in a large bowl and mix in frosting.

3. Roll the mixture into 1 inch balls and place on wax paper.

4. Melt candy melts as directed by the box and dip the top of the lollipop sticks in the melt before sticking one in to each cake ball.

5. Place cake pops in the freezer for 10 minutes or the refrigerator for 20 minutes. Remove when firm.

6. Dip the pops in the melted chocolate, blue for the stars and red for the stripes, then tap off excess chocolate and set back on wax paper.

7. Add white sprinkles to the blue pops before the chocolate hardens.

8. Finish the red pops by drizzling white chocolate over the top after the coating hardens

9. Line pops up on a tray to create an American flag.
