Is there anyway to lighten dark patches of skin?

My skin is about ivory to medium, but I have really dark knees, elbows and ankles. It's bothering me because they're totally different colors and I'm too embarrassed to show my arms or legs! My skin is medium but my knees are dark! Is there a way to get rid of them?

It’s completely normal for your knees, elbows and ankles to be darker than the rest of your skin, so don’t worry girl! Those areas are joints, so the skin gets dry from getting rubbed a lot. Dead skin builds up and make these areas look darker. Here’s how you can get rid of that dead skin and even out your color.

You can use moisturizers and scrubs to keep the skin in those areas hydrated and healthy. Any brand can help. It’s just a matter of routine and hygiene.

Also, a trick lots of girls use is a lemon wedge! If you rub lemon juice on your knees, elbows or ankles it acts as a natural and gentle bleach for your skin. If you leave the juice there for 15 to 20 minutes (try doing it while you kick back and watch TV to pass the time without moving around) and do it as often as you can, it should work best. Don’t forget to rinse!

Also, try using a higher SPF sunscreen on those areas, so when you tan they don’t get as much sun as your paler spots.

If none of this works, because every body is different, the most important thing to remember is that you have to embrace your perceived flaws. Don’t be afraid to show off your legs or arms in public because your skin is a little darker. Your friends probably won’t even notice unless you point it out! You are your own biggest critic, but if you’re comfortable with your body others will be too.
