These better-for-you burgers have a secret yummy ingredient

For all of you who are trying to be more healthy but are struggling to give up red meat (we don't blame you—juicy burgers are delicious), we've got you covered. The James Beard Foundation has partnered with the Mushroom Council to bring you their *amazing* creation: the Blended Burger.

So what exactly is a "blended burger?"

Basically, the blended burger is a healthier alternative to your standard 100 percent beef burger. This burger is exactly what it sounds like: the meat is "blended" with vegetables, specifically mushrooms. As a result, this new burger is the perfect meal for those who are thinking about going vegetarian or vegan but aren't entirely ready to give up meat (baby steps, you know?).

If you're worried about the taste, stop. The creators of the blended burger specifically chose to use mushrooms as opposed to other vegetables, because they wanted to preserve that "real meat" consistency. Mushrooms mimic a meat-like texture and are extremely juicy, so they're the perfect ingredient when it comes to recreating a meat-like burger.

What are the benefits?
We all know that burgers aren't the best meal to eat when you're trying to eat clean; however, the blended burger is changing the health game. This burger has fewer calories (under 350), fat, and carbohydrates compared to the standard beef burger, so you can still enjoy a tasty burger without the guilt and excess calories.

Additionally, it's made with ground beef that's free of antibiotics and hormones —an issue that has grown to be a major concern among the public. And not only will you be doing your body a favor, but you'll also be helping the planet. Mushrooms have a smaller carbon footprint than beef, so you'll be playing a crucial role in bettering the environment.

Where can you find the blended burger?
Currently, the burger is being sold at Sonic, and it's called 'The Classic Sonic Signature Slinger.' This burger is topped with lettuce, tomato, onions, dill chips, mayo and American cheese on a brioche bun. However, for all of you bacon lovers out there, you're in luck. Sonic has also released 'The Bacon Melt Sonic Signature Slinger' which comes topped with bacon, cheese and mayo on a brioche bun.
