Eat Right

3 tricks for buying yummy eats at the farmers' market!

Beth Bader, co-author of The Cleaner Plate Club, a cookbook and nutritional guide she wrote with Ali Benjamin, gave us the scoop on scoping out fresh produce and turning it into a scrumptious, summery dinner.
Be adventurous. Make a point to snap up something new every time you hit the market (dandelion greens, anyone?). “Exploring new ingredients is exciting—not intimidating,” says Beth. Most farmers are happy to let you sample whatever they’re selling, so ask for a taste.

Go with a seasonal recipe in hand. Not sure what to do with some of the wacky ingredients? Tote along a recipe to help keep ya focused. Flip to the “summer” section in a cookbook (check the library for some picks) and pick a dish that sounds delish. Knowing that your veggies are local will make your meal even tastier.

Spy healthier versions of your fave foods.
Want something indulgent? Look for unique treats like almond brioche or pad Thai. The ingredients will be fresher than those at the grocery store.
